Mas Catalan

This Catalan mas, with its time-worn stone walls and dark shutters, called for a Mediterranean, naturalistic garden equal to its character. The entrance path had to tell the story of the house before you even reached it.

A stone pathway now cuts through a dense border of blue agapanthus, planted in broad bands on either side, guiding the eye toward the old door. Around the pool, rounded mounds of rosemary and santolina, Mediterranean shrubs and a slender cypress form a lush green pocket, generous yet never cluttered, where every planting bed can breathe.

The garden closes on a bed of pebbles and large stones, like a dry riverbed, before easing gradually into a natural meadow at the edge of the plot, softened by a border of Mediterranean lawn grass along the terrace.
